Well­being services county of South Karelia​​ arranges and produces equal and easily attain­able social and health services for all resid­ents in South Karelia. 

Well­being services county of South Karelia​​ is a joint muni­cipal authority of the South Karelia region, covering nine muni­cip­al­ities: Imatra, Lappeen­ranta, Lemi, Luumäki, Parikkala, Rautjärvi, Ruoko­lahti, Savitaipale, and Taipalsaari.

Health services

The aim of the health services is to main­tain and improve the health, well­being, working and func­tional capa­city, and social security of people, as well as to reduce health inequalities.

The system is based on preventive health care and compre­hensive well-run health services.

Well­being services county of South Karelia provides social and health services in all nine muni­cip­al­ities of the South Karelia region.

We have over 5,000 profes­sionals in different fields who work together to offer you high quality health and well­being services.

Non-urgent care at health stations

At health stations, nurses and doctors will examine you and treat your symp­toms and illnesses.

Nurses’ appoint­ments include health advising, wound care, suture removal, and vaccin­a­tions. Where required, the nurse will refer you to a doctors’ appoint­ment.
The service is subject to a fee.

Booking an appoint­ment at a health station

Book an appoint­ment with a doctor or a nurse by calling a joint, regional tele­phone number:
05 352 7260 (Mon–​Fri at 07:00–20:00​).

A nurse will assess your situ­ation on the phone, consult a doctor where required, and refer you to a doctor, nurse, public health nurse, or physio­ther­apist. You may also receive home care instructions.

Remember to cancel your appoint­ment if you cannot attend your sched­uled appoint­ment. Booked appoint­ments must be cancelled by phone. A fee (€50.80) will be charged for unused appoint­ments that have not been cancelled.

Urgent care

In life-threat­ening situ­ations, call the emer­gency number 112. In non-urgent matters, please contact your local health station or occu­pa­tional health care provider.

Our health stations and the Central Hospital emer­gency unit will help when you become ill suddenly or have an acci­dent. We treat patients in the order of urgency.

Call the Medical Helpline’s toll-free number 116 117 before seeking medical attention.

We treat emer­gency patients 24 hours a day. If you have a sudden illness or injury, the primary place of care is your local health­care centre, which is open on week­days. If the health­care centre is closed, urgent care is provided by the South Karelia Central Hospital in Lappeenranta.

Cancel­ling your appointment

If you wish to cancel your appoint­ment, please contact the unit in ques­tion directly. A fee will be charged for unused appoint­ments that have not been cancelled.
